Abode Hotel ManchesterI was really excited about a stay at the Abode chain of Hotels. I have wanted to stay in the Canterbury one for the last couple of years but could never get in when we went down. So I was really looking forward to our stay in Abode Manchester last weekend.

We booked the rooms as part of a special offer the hotel was running, book bed and breakfast for friday night in a "Comfortable Class Room" and it included a two course meal and bottle of wine all for £99.00 for two people. An amazing deal for a city centre hotel of this quality.

The hotel is well placed on Piccadilly next to some good bars and pubs, 5 minutes walk from the Arndale shopping centre and almost opposite the NCP car park. The building itself is quite beautiful and the interior didn't disappoint. Very swish and modern with a very boutique feel about it. When being converted to a hotel I am pleased to see the developers kept the high ceilings and the exposed metal beams in the rooms and hallways, along with the great wooden floors which I really liked.

The Room was very modern, open plan designer storage, absolutely huge low level bed and quite minimalistic but actually very warm and cosy even with high ceilings and wooden floors. The bed was incredibly comfortable and apart from our rather noisy neighbours having a domestic at 1am in the morning we had a great nights sleep.

I was really looking forward to eating in a Michael Caines restaurant but knowing that I am not the easiest person to cook for, being Gluten and Dairy Intolerant, I emailed them when we booked to check if that wouldn't cause any problems and also rang the day before we went. However when we went down to dine the restaurant hadn't been notified about the intolerances.

Being on the special offer break we had a limited menu to choose from but I asked if I could have the Salmon without the cream sauce. The waitress had a word with the chef who sad he could do me a clear broth sauce to go with it. Sounded great, salmon fillet with fish broth sauce, B ordered the Lamb main course. The starter of calamari with sweet chili sauce and if I remember correctly spinach was great, we really enjoyed it.

The main course came out B's lamb looked nice and had some pureed mash potato with it, my salmon came out in a bowl with the broth. When did expect a side order of veg but it obviously wasn't included so we tucked in. My broth turned out to be nothing but hot water with a couple of herbs and a trace of finely sliced red onions thrown in. I was very disappointed it was incredibly bland and tasteless and consisted of nothing more than the slice of fish with no vegetables what so ever. B went on to order a sweet which was additional to our package and enjoyed it very much. But what I would say is that although we didn't sit down to eat until 8, we are very hungry again by 10 and B wanted to head into town to find something to eat.

Overall Comments: Loved the room would definately stay at an Abode hotel again but would give the resturant a miss.
